CFR.org Wins Two Awards for Online Journalism

The Council on Foreign Relations has won two awards for its website, CFR.org: an Online Journalism Award in the Specialty Journalism category; and a Silver W3 Award in the News category. “The site’s strength is its voice of authority and quality of journalism. There’s no fluff here,” said the judges of the Online Journalism Awards.
CFR.org provides up-to-date information about the world and U.S. foreign policy through Daily Analysis Briefs on issues of the day with links to the news, analysis, commentary, and primary source materials; Backgrounders, which succinctly explain current political and economic issues; Online Debates, lively week-long exchanges between foreign policy experts; and regular interviews and podcasts with prominent newsmakers and scholars from the Council and other organizations.
CFR.org is headed up by Executive Editor Michael Moran, Deputy Editor Robert McMahon, and Consulting Editor Bernard Gwertzman.

The Online Journalism Awards, a comprehensive set of journalism prizes honoring excellence in English-language web journalism, are administered by the Online News Association and the University of Southern California’s Annenberg School of Communications. Eben Kaplan, associate editor of CFR.org, accepted the award on Friday, October 19 at the ONA’s annual conference in Toronto, Ontario.
Receiving over 2,700 entries, the W3 Awards honor outstanding websites, web marketing, and web video created by some of the best interactive agencies, designers, and creators worldwide. The awards are sanctioned and judged by the International Academy of the Visual Arts.
These awards follow the success of CFR.org at last month’s Knight-Batten Awards for Innovations in Journalism, where the team won First Prize for their Crisis Guides—multimedia, interactive tools that provide context and historical perspective to the world’s most complex issues, such as Darfur and the Korean Peninsula.
