CFR to Convene Foreign Policy Forums for 2020 Primary Season

As voters across the country head to the polls for presidential election primaries and caucuses, the Council on Foreign Relations (CFR) will cohost four public nonpartisan events with universities in pivotal states. The forums will feature former government officials from Republican and Democratic administrations discussing issues central to U.S. national security that are of particular interest to each local community.

“As Americans choose their next president, CFR can serve as a resource to help them understand the international issues at stake in the election,” said CFR President Richard N. Haass. “These events will offer informed analysis of the global forces shaping our world today and how those issues affect citizens where they live.”

The Election 2020 U.S. Foreign Policy Forums will take place on the following campuses in advance of each state’s primary and will be livestreamed to the public:

CFR’s Election 2020 resources include candidates’ responses to a foreign policy questionnaire, a tracker of the candidates’ stated foreign policy positions, a podcast series offering differing views on challenges confronting the United States, video explainers that clarify common misconceptions about issues such as tariffs, automation, and foreign aid, and events with presidential candidates. Foreign Affairs is also running a series of articles by the candidates and will soon launch a special newsletter, On the Ballot.

In addition, CFR offers a suite of programs and resources for educators and students to interact with CFR experts, join the debate on foreign policy, and learn more about global issues.
