Kerry, Zarif, and Cotton

The negotiations on the Iranian nuclear program have highlighted the role of Iranian foreign minister Mohammed Javad Zarif, a charming diplomat. But the charm of diplomats representing tyrannies is something to worry about, not to celebrate. That’s the subject of a recent article of mine in The Weekly Standard.

The open letter by Tom Cotton (R., AR) and 46 other senators about the Iran talks was my subject in another article. For drafting this open letter Cotton was accused of everything up to and including treason. But expressing their opinions about major national issues is after all part of the job of senators, and Cotton and his colleagues have a responsibility to do this--especially when a role for Congress is being deliberately avoided by the administration.
